"At the Table with Dr. King" highlights the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to call its audience to action and service in their communities – and utilizes a multimedia platform of music, spoken word, and images from the Civil Rights era to make the challenge fresh, engaging, and urgent. The bottom line is simple: Listen for your calling. It’s going to involve how you can uniquely serve your community using your unique gifts. Go live it out. Then do it again.
Listen, Live, Repeat.
As we continue to reimagine and reinvent community, to what better authority could we turn for guidance than Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? Nearly 325,000 people worldwide have been impacted by “At the Table with Dr. King” through 500+ performances in schools and concert halls across 20 US states and in India, the UAE, and Israel.
This program will also feature Newberg students and community leaders including Rick Muthiah, D’Metri Mattocks, Danielle Warner, Matthew Fletcher, and members of the Newberg High School and George Fox choirs.
"I co-created At the Table with Dr King in partnership with the City of Aurora, Colorado, in 2003 as they were looking for a new way to honor Dr. King on the holiday," says Dave LeMieux, Creative Director of At the Table with Dr. King. "But really, it all started with Columbine. In the aftermath, I was desperate to find some sort of message which could convince people we are each invaluable to our communities; when we self-eject through apathy or remove others through violence, we all suffer. Each person is called to use their unique gifts to better each other, and Dr King knew, embodied, and championed this ideal. We are honored to present At the Table with Dr. King around the world (including in partnership with the U.S. State Department) to challenge and inspire audiences to do the same!"
